Fall is officially here! Time to bring your puffers back out and get your costumes on.

Welcome to our October newsletter! This month, you can discover past and upcoming events from PERMIKA Vancouver, and other Indonesian associations in Metro Vancouver.

Get to know some of the faces behind PERMIKA Vancouver. It can be good conversation starters for when you see us at our events!

Commemoration of Indonesian Soempah Pemuda

This month, we have a special day for us the youth generation of Indonesia. On the 28th of October we celebrate Sumpah Pemuda. Let us all not forget the hardships our ancestors have gone through to bring our country closer together.

Let us use this as a inspiration to continue to work for a positive impact even though we are at a foreign country, let us not forget our roots as Indonesians!

Last but not least, to commemorate this event PERMIKA has created a video in honour of this day.

This Month's Waroeng: "AYAM BAKAR"

We had this month's Waroeng featuring the classic "Ayam Bakar"! Served with white rice, sliced cucumbers, tahu goreng (fried tofu), and our special sambal!

Hansen Yang Logistics and F&B Coordinator of PERMIKA Vancouver

Hansen Yang, is in his 2nd year of university, studying Manufacturing Engineering in UBC. A fun fact about Hansen is that he can sleep anywhere anytime! His favourite restaurant at the moment is Kitchen Dada, apparently their lunch special menus are super worth it.

Chloe Lin PR & Marketing Coordinator of PERMIKA Vancouver

Chloe is a 4th year student majoring in Nutritional Sciences in the Faculty of Land and food systems of UBC. Not a math major, but she can calculate faster than a calculator! Her favorite restaurant recommendation is Pokerrito!

Devina Rani Leonora

Event Director of PERMIKA Vancouver

Devina is a 4th year student studying Psychology with a minor in Commerce in UBC currently doing co-op. fun fact she can't ride a bike to save her life!

Her favourite restaurant at the moment is Fat Mao!

SFUIA has launched its first-ever discord group. If you are an SFU student or are planning to transfer to SFU, join the discord group to chat with other students and stay updated on our upcoming events. Don’t forget to also check for more information about future events.

SFUIA also had its Halloween event (SFUIA HalloScream) last week. They hosted the Samyang challenge and Pumpkin carving competition. Hope it was a blast for everyone that participated in the event!

Pocket-friendly, Time-saving Recipes for Students

We all know that October has been stressful for everyone, with midterms every week and no time to cook, don't worry these recipes will save your pocket and time! Enjoy :) 1) Classic Fettuccine carbonara Ingredients (for one portion)

  • 150 g of your choice of protein

  • 25 g of Parmesan cheese

  • 50 oz of Fettuccine

  • Salt to taste

  • Black pepper to taste

  • 1 Egg


  1. Chop protein into bite-sized pieces

  2. Cook in a pan on low heat until protein crisps up

  3. Boil fettuccine in salted water until al dente

  4. Move fettuccine into pan and coat with bacon oil

  5. Mix egg and parmesan in a bowl

  6. Turn of heat in pan, add egg and parmesan (make sure it's not too hot so the egg doesn't cook fully)

  7. Add black pepper to taste!

2) Pepper-lunch inspired fried rice Ingredients:

  • Sauce ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • 1 tbsp water

  • Fried rice:

  • Rice of choice (white rice recommended)

  • Meat of choice (salmon or beef or mushrooms for vegetarian option)

  • Onions

  • Green onions

  • Canned corned

  • Butter

  • Black pepper


  1. Mix all sauce ingredients in one bowl

  2. Slice onions thinly

  3. Chop meat into bite size pieces

  4. Add onion first to pan

  5. Add meat around the onion

  6. Add rice, corn, green onion, and black pepper

  7. Pour in sauce and mix it up

  8. Finish with butter and serve in pan! (less dishes for us!)
